We try to make our adoption process as simple and timely as possible, but please know that we are all volunteers!
Here’s how it typically goes:
1. Submit an adoption inquiry
2. One of our adoption counselors will email you to schedule a phone consultation.
We try to respond to all inquiries within 24-48 hours. If you haven’t heard from us – check your spam folder. Still nothing? Drop us a note. Sometimes glitches happen!
3. Phone consultation
This is our first chance to get to know you and to tell you more about the animal you are interested in. We also may ask for clarification to answers on your inquiry. This also gives you an opportunity to ask us any questions you may have.
4. We bring the animal to meet you at your home
Since they will be living in your home, what better place to see if they are a good match? In the event that you live outside our typical adoption area, we may ask a representative from another rescue to meet with you in your home to discuss your readiness for adoption before we arrange for the animal to visit.
The home introduction isn’t intended to judge the size or cleanliness of your home, so please don’t worry about that. It’s an opportunity for us to meet you face-to-face and to introduce you to the animal you hope to adopt. We’ll help you install a tie-out, look for dangerous things like low placed candles and answer questions about crating, gating or separating your dog/cat, food, potty training, anything! We ask that everyone who lives in the home be available during the visit, so we don’t have to make the trip more than once.
5. If everyone still thinks it’s a good match – the adoption is finalized!
If we aren’t able to adopt the animal to you, we promise we will be honest and clear about why. Sometimes the animal isn’t a good fit for your family. Sometimes landlords or property managers won’t allow the type of animal you may want. Sometimes we may feel that you aren’t ready for the commitment we ask of our adopters. We may suggest another animal for you or refer you to another rescue we think may have a more suitable animal.
Please also be honest with us – if the animal isn’t YOUR pet, that’s okay! We’ll happily bring another pet to meet you or suggest other rescues that may have a pet more in line with what you are looking for.
Our goal is to protect these animals who have already been neglected, abandoned or abused by humans. We strive make a great fit for our animals to ensure that their next home is their FOREVER home. Thank you for your understanding and for supporting our mission!
